Setting

The sprawling root of a tree snares your foot and you stumble forward, towards the cabin. Dim light, the first you’ve seen since the sun disappeared, gently diffuses out towards you as you emerge from the treeline, and faint voices can be heard from within. You swallow your exhaustion and begin to sprint across the clearing towards the cabin doors, and towards safety.

The story of 9 Candles takes place at Peckwood, conveniently named after the real venue where the game is hosted, in the modern day. Your character arrives at the campground some time after the world is plunged into darkness, and you are acutely aware that something more than luck drew you to this place.

The world has been dark for 9 days, candles, torches and other artificial light sources seemingly all thats left. A few days ago, you started noticing things in the shadows, dangerous things. Them. Those that went to investigate, to fight them off, did not survive. They seem to keep out of the light, and so far you've managed to evade them, but the danger is drawing closer. For obvious reasons, out of character the sun will be present on Saturday daytime, sadly our budget doesn't extend to covering up the sun.

Much of your exploration will take place in the evening, running into the night, with candlelight to guide you. The game will take place in a combination of indoor and outdoor locations.

What you chose to explore at Peckwood is up to you. Perhaps you can find out more about Them, or what drew you to this place? Or maybe Peckwood is just the backdrop to your character’s personal journey. It’s important to understand that the main focus of the game is your character and who they are in their final moments– or, who they become.
